I created this blog to be able to post my thoughts online. I have plenty that I need to express. My hope is that this blog will be something of a filtering mechanism. If the people I know are interested in the things that I think about, then they can read what I have written and then start a conversation about it with me.
There were other options besides making my own website. I could have made posts on social media or posted on Medium. However, the deal with posting to a platform is that the creator has to make platform-friendly content in exchange for greater reach and the convenience of not having to set up their own platform.
- I'd like to be able to connect with people online on my own terms for a change, rather than accepting constraints placed by some company to serve their needs.
- The purpose of this blog is not to have broad reach, it's to start interesting conversations.
- I judge the inconvenience of setting up this platform to be worth it to me, though that may not be the case for others.
